About the Book
This book provides a conceptual framework that can be used to understand why markets exist. Each type of financial market is described in this book, with a focus on the securities that are traded in that market and the participation by financial institutions.
The discussion of financial services in this book is organized on the basis of type of service. This text is suitable for both undergraduate and graduate level courses in financial markets, financial institutions or both. To maximize students comprehensive level, the relevant questions and problems should be assigned, along with the special applications at the end of chapter. This text also contains the concepts and definitions of important terminologies from the view point of both conventional and Shari’ah.
About the Author
Prof. Dr. H. M. Mosarof Hossain was born in 1974 in Laxmipur Village of Shariatpur District. He started his schooling in Laxmipur Government Primary School in 1979. Then he admitted himself in Nager Para Government Primary School in 1984.
He obtained talent pool scholarship in all levels of his schooling/education. He did his secondary School Certificate Examination (SSC) in 1990, securing 1st division and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination from Dhaka College in 1992, where he placed 3rd position in combined merit list under Dhaka Education Board.
Then he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Hon’s) and Masters of Commerce from the Department of Finance, University of Dhaka in 1995 and 1996 respectively, secured first class distinction and acquired first position among his fellow classmates in both programs.
He also awarded his Ph. D degree from the same Department in 2007. He attended a training program titled “Train the Trainer Course on IFRS, ISA and IAS” held in Greenwich University, UK in 2008, coordinated by ICAEW and Organized by Ministry of Commerce, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He started his professional career as a banker but within very short time, he joined as a Lecturer in the Department of Finance, University of Dhaka in 1999.
Currently, he is serving as a Professor in the same Department. Dr. Hossain reviewed and edited a number of articles and Text Books, and has contributed over 23 research articles in various recognized journals. During his teaching career, he has performed duties as BBA program Director, Placement Director and MBA Program Director in the Department of Finance, University of Dhaka.
